Hello guys, I notice that we don't get many postings here. It would be nice to create some interest. Anything new happening in China? Any new out of China that has to do with China? There is a news article about China it is Titled China2.0. It is either on MSN or CNN. Not exactly sure what the point was. I was as if something fundamentally was changing in some policy. I will have to reread again. I only had a few minutes to read it the first time.

Danny, I was chatting with Steve today and said I needed to come and make some noise. I am finally settled in now (i hope) in GZ and hope to become more active here again and use this as a duplicate to what i put on FB. Perhaps more. I also need to get more into the Nanning forum on FB. Thanks for your patience and let the party begin.

1. There is a watch concerning the Typhoon that may hit Guangdong soon

2. The Asiaen Expo is now going on in Nanning. There are 9 countries involved, each having many booths to display their products. I went on opening day under a special pass. Pretty neat stuff there !

3. Nice and reasonable temp wise in Nanning now, but most of the time it is very hazy.

4. Another saga on our new condo----one outside wall leaked water, having us to remove our nice American white oak flooring . The flooring will have to be relaid, but first the walls, both inside and outside will have to be repaired. OH CHINA !!!!!! Wonder how long that might take ?

5. I am finding out that when you pay your (1000RMB) fee for the Condo Certificate ( title) of ownership, you may have to wait 6 months at least or probably much longer to get the official title from the Government. OH CHINA !!!!! Do you trust the system??

6. My wife's car ( a VW GOL) is 6 years old. It was made in Brazil. Now, she needs a part. But the VW dealership said that they ( and all other VW dealers in China ) are not now carrying parts for that car. OH CHINA !!!!!

7. My wife just got her drivers license renewed here in Nanning today. The new one is for 10 years. She spend 5 hours in several lines to get this. OH CHINA !!!!

8. Driving is getting much worse in the city streets of Nanning, having to avoid milliions of cyclists, pedrestrians, motor bikes, buses, taxi cabs, and yes, cars whose drivers do not know or respect any rules of the road. I wonder why they paint yellow lines on the roads. No one observes them. And, OH yes, when it is dark, at least half of the cars do not turn on their head lights.

OK, that's all for now

Steve, I am not sure when I will be able to make it again to Nanning but I wish I was there now...except maybe I don't need any tropical storms. Hope you allare having a great time there.

BTW, Do you know if the Marriot Hotel and the Best Western Red Forrest Hotel is the same hotel are or they just next to each other? When searching on the internet for info it was getting was a bit confusing. One hotel or two.

Here is the link about the new China:

China 2.0:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The atricle seem to be saying some of the Chinese are very rich and have money to burn. And some people are poor. They don't have much. Things are going to get better for them. But how much. My question is where is the change. I thought the article was going to be talking about a "big" Change. It seems to me that just things are changing but not in any real radical and distinct way. Am I missing the point? What do you guys think?

I didn't see much other than things are going to remain the same. Like all capitalist societies, the politicians are promising to make things better while the strengthen their power base. I think China 2.0 started when the reveloution ended. This may be 2.0v9 but it's still working it's kinks out for a rushed "alpha" release. Sort of like WinXP. How many service packs and updates do we have now....

There are two distinct hotels---the Marriott and the Best Western Red Forest. Both are on Minzu Dadao. The Marriott is adjacent to the Wal*Mart ( new one) store. The BW is more towards town towards the elepahnt Park, but across from the "FLOWER" which is the landmark for the Asean International Expo area.

There is much discussion on CCTV 9 ( the English , government run Channel) concernig the recent 5 Year plan. This plan shows much concern for the widening between the rich and the poor. The polotics indicates that they want to close this gap, but does not offer much hope or solutions . Also, there is inflation going on which is troublesome to many.

Hi Steve, I now know the hotel that I was thinking about is the Best Western. It is very new. Part of it is trianglaur in shape. I remember walking by it. It looks real fancy. The Marriot, I am not sure if I have ever noticed it. I have only been to the new Walmart two times. I did not notice it. I will have to pay more attention to it next time.

Danny

PS. I have been reading about the concern about the difference in prosperity between the rural folks and the city slickers in China. It sound like an issue that they may have to address. Traditionally the coastal area people have always been more affluent than the in-landers. But there are a lot more in-landers than costal people. A potential social and economicy and political issues.

Clif did you say?: "Like all capitalist societies" An interesting comment. I wonder how that observation would be met with at the next dinner party you attend in China and also the next dinner party that you attend in the USA? Would you get the same reaction?

Try not to confuse the economic policy with the political policy....capitalism is a policy where private ownership of companies for profit is the favored economic plan.....Socialism is where the government highly regulates business in a cooperative...or not...plan....So right now I agree with Clif in that the capitalists are in power in the communist party....one is an economic standard and the other is a political standard however communism is usually aligned with socialism.....But China is right now a capitalist society....based upon private ownership like our western society is....but the economic pendulum is swinging eastward towards the developing countries.....That is why Clif is now living the Chinese dream instead of the American dream.....snicker snicker.
